How to Win a Science Victory with Korea

Korea's Seowon is the only adjacency district in the game that works backwards — it wants isolation, not neighbors — which makes it one of the most misunderstood Science civs until you internalize the rule.

The Approach

Build Seowons on Hills surrounded by Mines and Farms rather than other districts, since every adjacent district actively subtracts from its Science output instead of adding to it. The Seowon itself increases the Science yield of nearby Mines and Farms too, so a tight cluster of hills-and-farmland around an isolated Seowon outperforms a normal Campus-heavy build once you understand the inverted logic.

Key Steps

  • Scout for Hills before settling — Seowons cannot be built anywhere else, so a hill-less start is a real problem specifically for Korea.
  • Resist the urge to cluster districts together the way you would with any other Science civ — for Korea, spreading out is correct.
  • Promote a small number of Governors deeply rather than spreading titles thin — this pairs naturally with the tall, hill-city-focused game Korea rewards.
