How to Win a Domination Victory with Rome

Rome doesn't have a combat-focused Unique Ability, but the sheer speed at which it can expand and infrastructure-snowball makes a Domination Victory a matter of simple overwhelming numbers rather than a specialized military kit.

The Approach

Lean entirely on the expansion side of Rome's identity — automatic roads and trading posts mean a wide empire stays economically connected without the usual infrastructure grind, so you can put more of your actual Production into units than a comparable empire under another civilization. The Legion's ability to build a Fort on the spot lets you consolidate captured territory faster than the AI can organize a counterattack.

Key Steps

  • Expand well beyond what feels necessary before you start a war — Rome's ability rewards a wide empire more directly than almost any other civilization, and that width becomes military capacity later.
  • Use captured cities' production immediately rather than leaving them to rebuild slowly — Rome's connectivity bonus means newly-taken cities integrate into your economy faster than usual.
  • Route Trade Routes through your own cities as you conquer — the extra Gold from Roman trading posts scales with how many of your own cities a route can pass through.
