How to Win a Domination Victory with Zulu

Zulu's Isibongo ability means every captured city hands you an automatically-upgraded unit, so a sustained conquest campaign gets stronger with every victory instead of grinding down your army over time.

The Approach

Keep pushing from city to city without pausing to fully rebuild between conquests — each capture upgrades the capturing unit outright (Corps becomes Army, standard becomes Corps), so an aggressive, continuous campaign actually strengthens your army faster than a slower, more cautious one would. Garrison Impi in newly-taken cities specifically, since the Loyalty bonus from a garrisoned unit is higher for Zulu than the baseline, helping captured territory stabilize faster.

Key Steps

  • Unlock the relevant Corps/Army civics before your campaign starts — Isibongo's upgrade effect requires them to actually trigger.
  • Keep momentum rather than consolidating slowly — the ability rewards a continuous string of captures more than a cautious, one-city-at-a-time approach.
  • Garrison a unit in every newly captured city immediately — the Loyalty bonus is specifically stronger for Zulu and helps prevent captured cities from rebelling back.
