How to Win a Science Victory with Babylon

Babylon's Eureka trade-off (100% tech value from boosts, but a permanent -50% base Science) means a Science Victory here lives or dies on how aggressively you chase every available Eureka, not on raw Campus output.

The Approach

Because the base Science penalty is permanent, Babylon punishes a passive science game more than almost any other civilization — you genuinely need to go out of your way to trigger Eurekas (meeting civilizations, building specific improvements, combat triggers) rather than relying on Campus adjacency alone to carry you. Treat Eureka-hunting as a core activity, not a bonus.

Key Steps

  • Keep a checklist of Eureka triggers for your current tech goals — with the 100%-value trade-off, missing them costs more here than for any other civilization.
  • Settle for Campus adjacency anyway — mountains and rainforest still matter, they just are not the whole story the way they are for other science civs.
  • Don't neglect a defensive garrison — a science-focused empire under Babylon's penalty is genuinely vulnerable in the early game if you fall behind on both fronts at once.
