Babylon

Babylon is the science civilization, built around a genuine trade-off: every Eureka becomes worth twice as much, at the cost of a permanent science penalty everywhere else.

Unique Ability

"Enuma Anu Enlil" is a real trade-off, not a pure bonus: Eurekas provide 100% of the Science needed for a technology instead of the usual 50%, but base Science output is reduced by 50% every turn. A second ability, "Ninu Ilu Sirum," also grants the cheapest available building in a district type for free the first time that district is built, plus a free Envoy for every other district built for the first time.

Unique Unit: Sabum Kibittum

A melee unit with a striking +17 Combat Strength bonus against Heavy and Light Cavalry units, and 3 Movement — a genuinely strong early anti-cavalry specialist.

Unique Infrastructure: Palgum

The Palgum (corrected from an earlier draft that mislabeled this "Karum") is a river-adjacent building granting +1 Housing, +2 Production, and +1 Food on freshwater tiles. The city must be adjacent to a River to build it.

How to Play Babylon

  • Chase Eurekas aggressively and deliberately — with the 100%-value trade-off, hunting every available Eureka trigger matters more for Babylon than for any other science civ.
  • Settle for Campus adjacency immediately — mountains and rainforest tiles matter more here than for almost any other civilization.
  • Don't neglect a small defensive force — a science-focused empire is an appealing target with no combat abilities to fall back on.
