Epoch Almanac

About This Site

A field guide to building empires in Civilization VI and Civilization VII — researched against official sources, and honest about what we don't know.

What Epoch Almanac Is

Epoch Almanac is an independent strategy resource for Sid Meier's Civilization VI and Civilization VII. We cover civilization and leader abilities, victory strategies, game mechanics, and comparisons between the two games, alongside a few interactive tools — a district adjacency calculator, a tier list builder, and explorable tech and civic trees.

We are a fan-made site. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Take-Two Interactive, 2K, or Firaxis Games. Civilization and all related marks are the property of their respective owners.

How Our Content Is Researched

Every civilization ability, leader ability, and game-mechanic description on this site is verified against primary sources — chiefly the official game guides published by 2K, cross-checked against established community references and, where relevant, official patch notes. Data files that power our pages carry sourcing notes describing exactly where their content came from.

Where something couldn't be verified to our standard, we say so on the page rather than guessing. Where the games differ by version or have changed through patches — which is common for Civilization VII, a game still under active development — we note which version the information reflects.

Tier Lists and Opinions

Our tier lists and strategy recommendations are our own analysis, built on the verified ability data described above. They are not scraped from community consensus or aggregated from other tier lists. Each placement comes with its reasoning written out, so you can judge the logic for yourself — and disagree with it, which is half the fun of tier lists.

Keeping Content Current

Civilization VI has been in a stable, finished state since its final content update, so our Civ VI coverage is a settled reference. Civilization VII is actively patched and expanded — we track its updates, DLC releases, and balance changes, and revise affected pages rather than letting outdated claims linger. Pages covering fast-moving topics say so explicitly.
