England

England is built around ruling the sea — a unique Harbor replacement and a leader ability that rewards planting your flag on foreign continents make coastal and multi-continent maps especially rewarding.

Unique Ability

"Workshop of the World": Iron and Coal Mines accumulate 2 extra resources per turn, Military Engineers get +100% Production and +2 charges, and Industrial Zone buildings get a Production bonus. Victoria's own ability (in her "Age of Empire" persona), "Pax Britannica," grants a free melee unit and Trade Route capacity the first time you settle on a new continent, a free naval unit from every Royal Navy Dockyard built, and the unique Redcoat unit once Military Science is researched.

Unique Unit: Sea Dog

A Renaissance era naval unit (corrected from an earlier, incorrect "Royal Navy Musketman" — no such unit exists) that replaces the Privateer, with a chance to capture defeated enemy ships and limited visibility to other Naval Raiders unless adjacent.

Unique Infrastructure: Royal Navy Dockyard

A district unique to England that replaces the Harbor, removing the movement penalty for embarking and disembarking on that tile, giving +1 Movement to naval units built there, and +2 Gold and +4 Loyalty per turn when built on a foreign continent.

How to Play England

  • Prioritize a coastal or multi-continent start if you can — the biggest England bonuses only trigger once you settle beyond your home continent.
  • Build a Royal Navy Dockyard on your first foreign-continent city as early as possible — it pays for itself in Gold and Loyalty on top of the free naval unit.
  • Use naval strength to control key sea lanes rather than committing to a purely land-based war.
