Mongolia

Mongolia has the strongest early-to-mid game military identity in Civilization VI, built to end games well before other civilizations can field a real defense.

Unique Ability

Örtöö: starting a Trade Route immediately creates a Trading Post in the destination city (rather than waiting for the route to complete), and grants an extra level of Diplomatic Visibility for holding a Trading Post in another civilization's city. Mongolian units get +6 Combat Strength for every level of Diplomatic Visibility advantage, instead of the usual +3 — the single largest combat bonus of its kind in the game.

Unique Unit: Keshig

A powerful mounted ranged unit available well ahead of comparable units from other civilizations.

Unique Infrastructure: Ordu

The Ordu is Mongolia's unique mobile Encampment-replacement district, built on a unit that can move with your army rather than staying fixed in a city.

How to Play Mongolia

  • Ally with nearby city-states early to start collecting free units sooner.
  • Secure Horse resources aggressively — they directly power the combat bonus.
  • Commit to war early; Mongolia loses its core advantage the longer the game drags into the later eras.
